It looks like the story did not end in September after all. Actor and influencer Akriti Agarwal and Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw are back together, just weeks after they called off their engagement.

Akriti shared the news in an Instagram note titled “A Personal Clarification”, and Prithvi reshared it on his own Instagram story on Monday evening.

“I made a decision without giving us the honest conversation we deserved”

In her note, Akriti did not hold back about her earlier decision. She said she had let the opinions of people close to her, people who “seemed to know our relationship better than we did”, shape how she saw her fiancé and their relationship.

“I feel I was misguided,” she wrote, “and I made a decision without giving us the honest conversation we deserved.”

She also took responsibility for the hurt that decision caused, and said the two have since talked openly and understood each other. “We have since spoken openly, understood each other and chosen to be together again,” she wrote. She ended with a request for privacy and respect: “Together, we are enough for each other, and we don’t need anyone else.”

How they got here

The couple got engaged in March this year. Prithvi announced it on social media with a series of photos and the caption “From sixes on the field to a lifetime of hits off it. She’s my perfect innings!” His IPL team, Delhi Capitals, was among those who wished them well.

In September, Akriti announced that the engagement was over. At the time she said they had “different goals and circumstances for our future”, and that their paths were not meant to be together, even though they loved and cared for each other.

Her latest post marks a clear change from that tone. This time she is not pointing to differing goals. She is saying she acted in haste, and that the two of them had not really talked things through.

Prithvi Shaw, 26, burst onto the scene in 2018, when he scored a century on his Test debut against the West Indies. He has had an up-and-down few years since, but he remains one of the better-known young names in Indian cricket. Akriti Agarwal is an actor and social media influencer from Lucknow, with a large following on Instagram.

Neither of them has said anything about wedding plans, and Akriti’s note asks that their decision be respected. For now, the message from the couple is simple: they have talked, they have cleared the air, and they are giving things another go.
