Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced on Tuesday that the World Bank has approved a loan of ₹15,000 crore for the construction of the state capital, Amaravati. The chief minister revealed that work on the project is set to commence in December.
Centre's Support for Polavaram Project
During a press conference, Naidu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the central government's agreement to release ₹12,500 crore for the Polavaram project. This financial backing is aimed at bolstering infrastructure development in the region.
In addition to these developments, the chief minister highlighted that Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd is planning to establish a refinery in Andhra Pradesh, with a significant investment of ₹85,000 crore. The company is currently conducting a feasibility study to determine the optimal location for the facility.
Vision for a Prosperous Andhra Pradesh
Naidu shared details about the Swarna Andhra Pradesh 2047 vision document, which is in the works to transform the state into a USD 2.5 trillion economy with a per capita income of USD 40,000. He emphasized the importance of this vision for the future of the state.
Infrastructure Initiatives Underway
"The World Bank has agreed to provide ₹15,000 crore for the construction of Amaravati capital phase-1. We will work in a time-bound manner," Naidu stated. He also mentioned that the new Visakhapatnam International Airport at Bhogapuram is expected to be completed by December next year. The GMR Group, which is managing the project, has been tasked with establishing a Civil Aviation University nearby.
Financial Concerns and Previous Government's Lapses
In response to questions about the state’s financial situation, Naidu elaborated on the economic challenges faced by Andhra Pradesh. He indicated that he had discussed the financial turmoil experienced over the past five years with Prime Minister Modi. He alleged that the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government mismanaged Central-sponsored schemes, resulting in a halt in fund flow due to unsubmitted utilisation certificates.
Addressing Waste Management Issues
Naidu highlighted that the negligence of the previous administration led to an accumulation of 85 lakh tons of garbage across the state, a problem his government is now actively working to address.
The chief minister also announced that the Centre has been approached to construct a Greenfield Expressway connecting Vijayawada and Hyderabad, as well as a 185 km Outer Ring Road in Amaravati.
Additionally, Naidu mentioned that the union government is exploring various options for the future viability of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Chandrababu Naidu is currently in the national capital, where he met with Prime Minister Modi and other cabinet ministers, including Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri, to discuss these important issues.
