Foxconn, a prominent supplier for Apple, has revealed its plans to establish iPhone manufacturing operations in the Indian state of Karnataka by April 2024, as announced by Karnataka Industries Minister M B Patil. The state government has pledged to allocate 300 acres of land in Devanahalli's ITIR (information technology investment region), with the land expected to be handed over to Foxconn no later than July 1, 2023. This substantial project, estimated to cost Rs 13,600 crore, holds the potential to generate around 50,000 job opportunities.
To facilitate the initiative, the government has committed to ensuring essential infrastructure facilities such as water, reliable power supply, road connectivity, and other necessary provisions. A delegation from Foxconn recently met with Minister Patil and Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge in Bengaluru to discuss the project's specifics. Foxconn has been requested to outline the required skill sets for the workforce, allowing the government to organize training programs accordingly.
Demonstrating its dedication, Foxconn has already paid 30% of the land cost (amounting to Rs 90 crore) to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board. The company aims to execute the project in three phases and ultimately achieve an annual production capacity of 20 million units once the facility reaches full operational capacity.
