Disney's complaint accusing DeSantis of retaliation is dismissed by a U.S. judge

A federal judge in the United States dismissed the Walt Disney Company's case against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and members of a state board. The lawsuit was made after Disney criticised state rules that make it illegal to talk about sexuality in school. This caused the state to take action against the company. However, the judge said that Disney could not sue the defendants because the state rules were constitutional.

The background of the dispute

Disney's opposition to the "don't say gay" policy, which prohibits discussing sexuality in schools, led to a spat with the state of Florida. Governor DeSantis frequently voiced his opposition to "woke Disney" while he was preparing to compete as a Republican for president. State legislators retaliated by removing Disney's authority over the special development district, which had granted the business decades of leeway surrounding its theme parks. DeSantis subsequently established the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board. Disney contracts that were made prior to the appointment of the new board were annulled by this board.

The lawsuit Disney filed and the response

Because of what the state did, Disney sued Governor DeSantis and board members, saying they were punishing the company for its political statements. But the new board responded by asking a judge in state court to throw out the old deals, which were good for Disney.
