By March, the Center's Smart Cities Mission will have been completed in 22 cities, improving people's quality of life and creating an environment that is clean and sustainable. The flagship initiative of the Narendra Modi government, the Smart Cities Mission, was launched on June 25, 2015, and 100 cities were selected for redevelopment in four competition rounds held between 2016 and 2018.
Bhopal, Indore, Agra, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Erode, Ranchi, Salem, Surat, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Kakinada, Pune, Vellore, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Madurai, Amaravati, Tiruchirappalli, and Thanjavur are the major cities.
