Social media giant Meta has introduced its 'Meta Verified' service in India, offering verification features for Facebook and Instagram accounts. The service, priced at INR 699 per month for iOS and Android users, provides protection against impersonation, government ID-based verification, and account support. Meta plans to offer a web and mobile-based monthly subscription of INR 599 exclusively for Facebook users. The company aims to establish a long-term revenue stream and expand access to the verification badge by tapping into India's massive user base. Meta Verified has already been launched in the UK, and Canada, and is expected to launch soon in Brazil. Eligible users must meet certain criteria and submit a government ID and possibly a selfie video for authentication. The service will become available gradually over the next few weeks. However, businesses are currently unable to apply for Meta Verified. This move by Meta follows Twitter's launch of its Twitter Blue service in India, as both companies aim to tap into India's large social media market, which has 467 million users as of January 2023.
