Google Pay, in collaboration with NPCI, has announced its support for RuPay credit cards on UPI payments. To utilize online and offline UPI transactions through Google Pay, RuPay credit cardholders need to register their cards on the platform. This service is currently available for RuPay credit cardholders from Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Union Bank of India. Google plans to include more banks in the near future.
To enable this feature, users can go to their Google Pay profile and select the "RuPay credit card on UPI" option, followed by choosing the bank that issued their RuPay credit card. They will then set a unique UPI PIN by entering the last six digits of their card number and expiry, along with the OTP from their bank. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the linking of RuPay credit cards to the UPI platform in June 2022.Sharath Bulusu, Director of Product Management at Google, expressed that this feature will provide users of Google Pay with greater payment options and flexibility, ultimately driving the wider adoption of digital payments in India. Additionally, Google has also introduced UPI as a payment option for purchasing subscriptions from its Play Store.
