Vodafone has issued a public service announcement warning people of the ‘Wangari phone scam’. The Wangiri phone scam is a scam that originated in Japan, the meaning of Wangiri is 'one ring and cut'. In this scam, the scammers trick people into calling international and premium numbers.
First, they send you a missed call and then wait for you to call back, this way when a person in the natural human sense calls back to see from whom and why he received a call the person's money will be cut.
Vodafone has issued this warning as many customers have reported to getting unknown calls from international numbers.
Vodafone urges everyone to be careful and alert, as to not get tricked by scammers.
