Elon Musk to limit users activity on Twitter to restrict web harvesting

Elon Musk has put a limit on the number of tweets a user can read per day. This news came on Saturday 1 July, through Elon’s social media post.

According to the new initiative, verified users can read up to 10,000 posts, unverified users can read 1000 posts a day and new unverified users can read 500 posts a day. Earlier, this limit was 6000, 600 and 300 respectively, which Musk increased later.

This measure was taken by Twitter to put restrictions on data scrapping. There are various AI companies which have been seen scraping data on Twitter. They harvest data from Twitter in a large amount which affects the user’s experiences.

Through this limit, Twitter can control unnecessary data harvesting.

Earlier, he announced a ‘temporary emergency measure’ i.e. he made it compulsory to have a twitter account to view tweets.

After the new measure to limit user activity, many users faced difficulty accessing it as the Twitter server was quite down yesterday.
