Some Khalistani protesters removed the Indian flag from the Indian High Commission in London while protesting against the police's actions taken towards the separatist Amritpal Singh. The ministry expressed its displeasure with the UK government's failure to provide adequate security at the high commission premises and stated that their lack of concern towards Indian diplomats and personnel was not acceptable. The Indian foreign ministry called upon the highest-ranking diplomat from the UK in New Delhi to provide an explanation regarding the removal of the Indian flag.
Yesterday evening, demonstrations against the crackdown led to protestors scaling the building of the Indian High Commission in London, as evidenced in videos posted on social media. The protestors removed the Indian flag from the building. In Brisbane, Australia, pro-Khalistan groups held a referendum on the matter.
In response, the Indian foreign ministry summoned the senior-most UK diplomat in New Delhi and demanded an explanation for the absence of British security at the High Commission premises. The ministry stated that the UK Government has a basic obligation under the Vienna Convention to ensure the security of foreign diplomatic missions.
Furthermore, the ministry expressed its dissatisfaction with the UK Government's indifference toward the security of Indian diplomatic personnel and premises. The statement also made it clear that the Indian Government expects immediate action to be taken to identify, arrest, and prosecute those involved in the incident. The Indian Government also called for stringent measures to be put in place to prevent any such incidents from occurring in the future.
In regard to this incident, the IHC has hoisted a bigger Indian flag on the building which is much higher for the khalistani protesters to reach.
