The Indian Air Force day is celebrated on the 8th of October every year. The day is celebrated as a point of dignity and pride for the nation. This time Indian Air Force held its annual Air Force Day parade at Sukhana Lake Complex, Chandigarh. President Draupadi Murmu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Air Staff Vivek Ram Choudhary were present at the event.
Approximately 80 military aircraft and helicopters participated in the celebration and the recently introduced helicopter ‘Prachand' and other helicopters like ‘Dhruv', ‘Chinook', ‘Apache', and ‘Mi-17’also took part in the event. The IAF chief unveiled a new combat uniform and announced the creation of a new operational branch of the Air Force. The chief also stated that the force is planning on induction of women “Agniveers” starting next year.
The Indian Air Force was established on 8th October 1932 by the British government as Royal Indian Air Force. In 1950, its name was changed to the Indian Air Force. Now Indian Air Force is the 3rd strongest Air Force in the world after America and Russia.
