In a major move, the Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Manish Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi, in cases involving the contentious Delhi tax policy. Sisodia was taken into custody in February 2023 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), then a month later by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He has been detained for 17 months.
The court set bail conditions, including a ₹10 lakh bond, surrender of passport, and biweekly check-ins with investigators. It rejected the ED's request to restrict Sisodia's movements within Delhi's government offices.
High-Profile AAP Leaders Implicate
This case, which alleges irregularities in Delhi's liquor policy, has ensnared several high-profile Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody, while AAP MP Sanjay Singh was recently granted bail.
Sisodia faces accusations of making unauthorised policy decisions and misusing funds for political campaigns. This bail order marks his third attempt at release and comes after the Supreme Court previously suggested revisiting his plea if the trial was delayed.
The court's decision highlights the ongoing legal and political ramifications of the Delhi excise policy case, which continues to impact the capital's political landscape.
This is a developing story , stay tuned for more.
