Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif has been elected the Prime Minister of Pakistan for a second time on Sunday as his elder brother and party patriarch Nawaz Sharif was declared disqualified to seek a fourth term, Vygr News learnt. Just assuming office on Sunday, he expressed his government's intention to be in the G20 group of nations by 2030 in his speech. Further, he announced plans to grant visa-free entry to a few "brotherly countries," aiming to boost trade within Pakistan.
In his prior term, Shehbaz Sharif, 72, managed the administration at a crucial time following Imran Khan being unseated in 2022. Shehbaz Sharif played a crucial role in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.
The Sharifs-led Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party secured just 75 seats in the elections and managed to get the support of other parties.
Shehbaz Sharif's assumption of the top office is supported by the Pakistan Military. Following the arrangement between PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari would be the President of Pakistan.
Right after his return, he announced his government's decision to pass a resolution on Palestine and Kashmir, Pakistan's national daily Dawn reported.
Sharif's father migrated from Jati Umra, a municipality in India Punjab's Tarn Taran district to Pakistan.
