Flash floods have devastated Nepal’s Gorkha district after a landslide reportedly blocked the Budhi Gandaki River before the water suddenly burst through.

According to officials, 45 houses were swept away, three hydropower projects and four bridges were damaged, and at least five people remain missing.

Authorities said 82 people, including nine foreign nationals, were rescued, while four helicopters were deployed for rescue and evacuation operations.

The disaster agency identified a dry landslide as the likely trigger. Residents were warned to move away from the river as water levels continued to rise.

Nepal is still recovering from earlier deadly floods and landslides, raising fresh concerns about disaster preparedness across the Himalayan region.
