Nepal has a troubling history of aviation disasters, averaging about one significant incident per year. Since 2010, the mountainous nation has experienced at least 12 fatal plane crashes. The most recent before this involved a Yeti Airlines flight in January 2023, which crashed near the central city of Pokhara. In that devastating event, all 72 people aboard, including passengers and crew members, perished when the aircraft fell into a steep gorge, disintegrating and catching fire as it approached its destination.
Wednesday's accident has once again highlighted the critical need for enhanced safety measures and rigorous enforcement of aviation regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future. The investigation into the cause of the Saurya Airlines crash is underway, with authorities vowing to uncover the reasons behind this latest catastrophe.
