India issues advisory against travelling to Myanmar

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued an advisory on November 21 for Indians going to Myanmar because of the unsafe security conditions over there. The Ministry expressed concerns about the clashes happening near India's border between anti-junta groups in Myanmar and the government forces. They urged people to avoid travelling to Myanmar. The advisory also encourages Indian citizens to sign up with the Embassy of India in Yangon by registering the form available on their official website.

“All Indian nationals planning to live in Myanmar (excepting short term tourists) are advised to register themselves with the Embassy of India, Yangon. Registration with the Embassy will facilitate any measures that need to be taken in a situation of emergency or if such a need arises”, the advisory stated.

The ministry suggested that people should not travel unless it's really necessary. Indians who are already in Myanmar, were told to be careful and not to visit places where there is violence, further suggesting to avoid inter-state travel by road.

Indian nationals must send a soft copy of the form to the provided link and a printed copy to the Consular Wing of the Indian Embassy. Alternatively, they can drop off the printed form, along with two color passport-sized photos for each family member, a copy of the first, last, and current visa pages of each passport, and the actual passports for verification, at the Embassy from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on any working day.
