A vintage black fedora that Michael Jackson wore while performing his well-known moonwalk dance will be auctioned off in Paris on September 26. The auction, which Arthur Perault of the Artpeges Gallery is organising, will feature about 200 items of rock memorabilia. It is anticipated that the fedora will sell for between 60,000 and 100,000 euros. Jackson object appraisals have been challenging because of recent controversies and the sale of supposedly phoney Jackson items.
At a Motown concert that was broadcast on television in 1983, Jackson debuted the moonwalk, which later became his signature motion. Adam Kelly, who initially believed Jackson's staff would get the hat, ended up picking it up.
But now that it has been through several private collectors, it is being put up for auction. There will also be an auction for other significant musical memorabilia, such as a guitar once belonged to blues legend T-Bone Walker and a suit once worn by Martin Gore of Depeche Mode.
Auctions of music memorabilia have become increasingly popular, demonstrating the everlasting fascination with renowned musicians and their iconic possessions. Previous auctions involving objects owned by Freddie Mercury and Noel Gallagher attracted a lot of attention and fetched millions of dollars.
