Gunman kills 6, injures 26 in Cartel related shooting at a party in Mexico

Authorities reported that a group of armed individuals fatally shot six individuals at a gathering in the northwestern region of Mexico on Friday. Among the victims was an alleged criminal who was believed to have been specifically targeted in this violent incident.

The Sonora state prosecutor's office stated that preliminary inquiries suggest that the incident was a targeted assault on the head of a criminal organization, who was wanted for charges including attempted femicide, homicide, illegal detention, and participation in criminal activities.

The early morning attack in the municipality of Cajeme resulted in the demise of the unidentified target and five additional individuals, with 26 people sustaining injuries, as reported.

Prosecutors stated their inability to verify the claims regarding the nature of the event, which was rumoured to be a celebration of a 15th birthday. Since 2006, Mexico has witnessed a distressing surge in drug-related violence, resulting in the tragic loss of over 420,000 lives. Notably, social gatherings have become a prime target for the ruthless gunmen associated with cartels. On the 17th of December, a group of armed individuals unleashed gunfire at a Christmas gathering attended by young Mexican individuals in the state of Guanajuato, resulting in the tragic loss of 11 lives.
