Acting President Delcy Rodríguez confirmed the catastrophic impact of the twin tremors, which struck just a minute apart with staggering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5.

The second tremor is recorded as the strongest earthquake to hit Venezuela since 1900.

Rescue operations are currently underway in Caracas and the hardest-hit state of La Guaira, where the UN reports that over 100 buildings have completely collapsed.

Terrifying footage from the ground shows residents fleeing for their lives as structures crumbled around them.
