A shocking new cyber fraud has emerged in Mumbai, serving as a harsh wake-up call for internet users.
A victim reported that after clicking an enticing "adult" link shared on social media, his smartphone began to overheat unexpectedly.
Within seconds, ₹70,000 was siphoned from his bank account.
What is happening?
- Cybercriminals are using "malicious links" to install spyware or screen-monitoring malware on devices the moment you click.
- Once the link is accessed, the malware runs in the background (causing the phone to heat up due to high CPU/data usage) and captures banking credentials or intercepts OTPs to authorize fraudulent transactions.
How to stay safe:
- Never click on links from unknown sources, especially those promising adult or exclusive content.
- If your phone heats up or behaves strangely after clicking a link, immediately disconnect from the internet (Wi-Fi/Data).
- Check for suspicious apps in your settings and run an antivirus scan.
- Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on all your banking and social media accounts.
Don't let your curiosity cost you your life savings.
