The Uttar Pradesh government announced the cancellation of the police constable recruitment examination in the state, held on February 17 and 18, due to a paper leak, according to an official order issued on Saturday.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath made the announcement on a social media post, "Orders have been given to cancel the examination-2023 conducted for selection to the posts of Reserve Civil Police and to conduct re-examination within the next six months."
He said, “There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who play with the hard work of the youth will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements.”
The re-examination, scheduled to take place within the next six months, will see candidates transported to exam centres free of charge via Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses. However, the specific date for the re-examination has yet to be announced.

The examination, aiming to fill 60,244 police constable positions, was held in two shifts. It attracted a significant turnout of 48 lakh candidates across 2,378 examination centres in Uttar Pradesh's 75 districts, with 43 lakh actually appearing for the test.
However, Allegations of a paper leak surfaced on social media. Candidates claimed that the leaked content was available for purchase, ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh, and many had access to it 8-12 hours before the exam began.
In response, the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board established an internal committee to investigate the allegations of paper leaks and the circulation of question papers and answer sheets on social media, as stated by senior officials of the board.
The UP government has issued directives to investigate reported irregularities and misconduct in the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) examination at the governmental level. The investigation will now be overseen by the Special Task Force (STF).
