On Wednesday, protesting Youth Congress workers marched to Gherao, the residence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and were met with police involvement, with officers using water cannons and baton charges to clear the throng. The protesters wanted the restoration of those who had worked under the Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mitra project, which the BJP government in Rajasthan had ended soon after it took office.
'Yuva mitras' were given stipends under the Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mitra plan, a hallmark project of the former Congress administration, to encourage them to spread awareness about government services.
The Youth Congress workers began their march following a meeting at Shaheed Smarak, to reach the Chief Minister's house. They encountered resistance close to the Police Commissionerate, though, and when the demonstrators disregarded orders, the police intervened.
Youth Congress president’s statement
BV Srinivas, Youth Congress National President, participated in the protest and demanded that 5,000 Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mitras be re-employed. He accused the BJP of forming a government on false promises, citing the unfulfilled vow to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every citizen's bank account.

Speaking to party members, Srinivas emphasized that the government must converse with farmers who are protesting and accommodate their requests.
In just two and a half months, Abhimanyu Poonia, the state president of the Youth Congress, voiced a lack of confidence in the state administration. He criticized the administration for not keeping its promises to farmers and young people, pointing out that the state does not have any work programs for young people without jobs.
