Mumbai: On Thursday, at 7 am, the northbound carriageway of the Coastal Road was opened for traffic. The distance covered by this section is 3.5 km. The public can now use the third phase of the Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai coastal road (south) project. According to civic officials, the opening of a 3.5-km stretch of the northbound carriageway of the Coastal Road for traffic will assist shorten the time it takes to get from south Mumbai to the suburbs.
The section extends from Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in Worli to Haji Ali. It is part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, which spans around 12 km. From Monday to Friday, between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm, this section of the coastal road of the project will be open for traffic. On Saturdays and Sundays, however, it will stay closed to allow for the finishing of the remaining project work.
Between Haji Ali and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, it will assist drivers in avoiding the traffic jams they have been experiencing, according to a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official.
CM Eknath Shinde's inspection
The 3.5-kilometre stretch was examined by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday, in the presence of municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and other senior authorities. According to Shinde, the administration has been instructed to finish up the remaining work on the coastal road project as soon as possible. The project is currently 91% complete.
In the first phase, on March 11, the BMC opened a 9.5-km stretch of the Coastal Road that runs south from Bindu Madhav Chowk in Worli to Marine Drive. Afterwards, on June 10, the next phase began with the opening of a 6.25 km highway heading north between Marine Drive and Haji Ali,infrastructureLotus Junction near Haji Ali.
The Bandra-Worli Sea Link will be directly connected to the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, which is being carried out by the BMC. This would shorten travel times between south Mumbai and the suburbs and enhance the quality of commuter travel overall. On October 13, 2018, work on the massive Rs 13,983 crore project commenced.
