Madhya Pradesh: Indore creates a World Record by planting 11 lakh saplings in one day

Madhya Pradesh: On Sunday, the Madhya Pradesh government established a new Guinness World Record for the maximum number of trees planted in a single day. Following the planting of over 11 lakh saplings on Sunday in the Indore region of the state, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was presented with a certificate by the Guinness Book of Records team.

Speaking to the media following the ceremony, Yadav claimed that Indore, the economic capital of Madhya Pradesh and already the cleanest city in India, had set a new record by planting more than 11 lakh saplings in a single day.

The campaign

At Indore earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took part in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign by planting a sapling. On June 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign in honour of World Environment Day. Aiming to plant 140 crore trees nationwide, this effort would involve planting 5.5 crore of them in Madhya Pradesh, which Shah referred to as the "lungs of Bharat."

Indore's achievement

51 lakh saplings will be planted as part of this initiative in Indore, which has been named the nation's cleanest city by the Swachh Survekshan for several years now, according to officials.

The BSF Academy's Revati Range, which was split into nine zones and 100 sub-zones, served as the site of the plantation drive. According to officials, the plantation drive involved 2,000 BSF jawans, over 100 NRIs, NCC cadets from 50 schools, a sizable number of citizens, and members of numerous social organizations.

The previous record for the most saplings planted in a single day was 9,21,730, according to the Guinness World Record website. The Forest Department of the Assam (India) government set this record on September 13 and 14, 2023, in Udalguri.
