A man named Dominic Martin from Kerala's Thrissur district has come forward and taken responsibility for the tragic serial blasts that occurred during a prayer meeting in Kalamassery. The devastating incident resulted in the loss of one life and left 40 others injured. According to the police, Dominic Martin has confessed to planting the bomb at the convention centre where the three blasts occurred on Sunday morning.
During a prayer meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses attended by over 2,000 people at Zamra International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Kalamassery, explosions occurred around 9:30 a.m. The three-day prayer meeting was supposed to end on Sunday. The police reported that fire personnel and a team of police arrived at the blast site and found the body of the deceased. The injured have been taken to Government Medical College Hospital in Kalamassery and private hospitals, according to the police.
According to India Today Report, Kalamassery, Kerala ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar, said, "One person has surrendered in Kodakara Police Station, in Thrissur Rural, claiming that he has done it. His name is Dominic Martin and he claims that he belonged to the same group of sabha. We are verifying it. We are looking into all aspects of this case...The blast took place in the central part of the hall."
Preliminary investigations reveal that an IED-filled tiffin box caused the first blast at 9:40 a.m., according to Kerala DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb.
The police have not yet confirmed whether the detained man is responsible for the blasts, but they are questioning him extensively.
Meanwhile, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has scheduled an all-party meeting for 10 a.m. on Monday on Monday at the Secretariat. He is likely to chair a high-level meeting concerning the recent explosions.
Expressing his concerns, he said, "It's indeed a deeply regrettable incident. We are actively gathering information about the event. Key authorities in Ernakulam are already involved, and we are treating this matter with utmost seriousness. This morning, I had a conversation with the Director General of Police, and we anticipate further details as the investigation unfolds."
Witnesses who were present at the prayer meeting reported hearing multiple explosions, which were followed by a fire outbreak.
