Jharkhand rail tragedy: 2 dead due to sudden braking

Two passengers lost their lives on Saturday when a Delhi-bound train abruptly halted due to a snapped overhead electric wire in Jharkhand's Koderma district, as reported by East Central Railway officials.

The accident took place at 12:05 pm near Parsabad, situated between Gomoh and Koderma railway stations. The driver of the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express activated the emergency brake to bring the train to a halt after an overhead electric wire fell on it, resulting in the unfortunate demise of two individuals due to the sudden jolt, explained Ameresh Kumar, Senior Divisional Commerce Manager of Dhanbad Railway Division.

The train was travelling at a speed of 130 kmph when the mishap occurred. Following the accident in the Koderma-Gomoh section, train operations on the grand chord line, under the Dhanbad Railway Division of ECR, resumed after a suspension lasting over four hours, according to officials.

The Purushottam Express was relocated to Gomoh using a diesel engine from the accident site and subsequently sent to Delhi via an electric engine, as stated by the authorities.
