India's first International Cruise Liner 'Costa Serena' sets sail from Mumbai Port

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off the maiden voyage of the Costa Serena, the first international cruise liner in India, from Mumbai today.

According to a Press release, India is enhancing its focus on the cruise sector along with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) to actively promote cruise tourism for the economic positive impact such as creating jobs and earning foreign exchange amongst many other benefits. One of the key areas is to develop cruise destinations at tourist places of coastal states and islands.

The launch of Costa Cruises' domestic sailings is the result of several government initiatives to promote and revitalize the cruise tourism industry in India.

Costa Cruises is a prominent European cruise company that operates under an Italian flag and is renowned for offering high-end inter-country cruise experiences 

Costa Cruises is expected to carry around 45,000 passengers on its upcoming two-month voyages, providing an international cruising experience for Indians in domestic waters who would have otherwise booked travel from international locations.

Costa Cruises, an Italian company that is part of Carnival Corporation, one of the world's largest cruise conglomerates, is offering domestic cruises in India. These initiatives include guaranteed berths for cruise ships, removal of Ousting charges, a concessional uniform single rate for all major ports, volume discounts in cruise tariffs up to 30% for domestic cruise ships, waiver of cabotage for foreign cruise vessels, uniform SOPs for Customs, Immigrations, CISF, and Ports, and upgradation and modernization of cruise terminals with enhanced passenger facilities.
