The Indian Prime Minister, who is traveling abroad for the first time since taking office for a third term in a row, will also have bilateral discussions with the other G7 leaders, including Giorgia Meloni of Italy, in addition to the outreach session.

What happened on Day 1 of the summit?

The G7 leaders' summit will take place from June 13 to 15 at the luxury resort of Borgo Egnazia in Italy's Apulia region. Representatives from Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union (EU) attended the yearly summit. A political agreement on a broad accord to lend $50 billion to Ukraine using interest from Russian sovereign assets frozen during Moscow's invasion of its neighbor in 2022 served as the highlight of the first day's events.

How has India’s participation in G7 summits been?

It is PM Modi's fifth consecutive summit attendance. India will be attending its eleventh G7 summit, having previously attended ten of them. He is anticipated to have bilateral talks and meetings with the leaders of the Outreach Countries, international institutions, and the G7 on the sidelines. "Together, we aim to address global challenges and foster international cooperation for a brighter future," the Prime Minister stated in a post on X after landing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Italy, which will focus on Ukraine and Gaza ceasefire discussions. The summit is scheduled from June 13-15 at the luxurious Borgo Egnazia resort in the Apulia region. Leaders from the G7 member countries—US, UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and France—as well as the European Union, will convene at the event.

India's Agenda at the G7 Summit

India, invited as an outreach country, has set defence and maritime cooperation as key priorities for the summit.

We are looking at cooperation in critical technologies, linking the defence industries of the two countries, and also maritime cooperation." This participation marks PM Modi's first overseas trip since beginning his third term as Prime Minister, noted Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra.

"We have always been at the forefront to talk about the need for dialogue and diplomacy, and the impact of the conflict on developing countries," Mr. Kwatra added.
