FIR lodged against IAS Trainee Officer Puja Khedkar's parents over viral 'gun video'

Maharashtra: According to a report on Saturday, the Pune Rural Police has filed an FIR against Manorama Khedkar and Dilip Khedkar, the parents of controversial trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar. The FIR is based on a complaint by a farmer who claimed that Manorama had threatened him and is registered against five other individuals too.

The viral video

On social media, a video of Puja's mother Manorama allegedly threatening villagers in Mulshi taluka, Pune district, with a gun started to make the rounds. At the Paud police station, the FIR was lodged on Friday night under sections 323, 504, and 506 of the IPC. There are additional charges about the Arms Act too. Later on Friday night, the Pune Rural Police announced that an investigation would start to figure out the specifics of the matter, including whether or not she had permission to carry the gun.

What's the case?

According to a police official, the incident in the video involved a parcel of land in Dhadwali village in Pune's Mulshi tehsil that Puja Khedkar's father, retired Maharashtra government officer Dilip Khedkar, had purchased. The Khedkars were accused by the locals of encroaching on nearby farmers' land. In the two-minute video, Puja Khedkar's mother Manorama Khedkar is seen fighting aggressively with her neighbours while being escorted by her security officers. With a pistol in her hand, Manorama Khedkar is seen yelling at a man. Approaching him, she flashes the gun in his face before hiding it in her hand.

Regarding the incident, farmer Kuldeep Pasalkar said Manorama Khedkar was attempting to seize his land by force. "She has also been making threats against other farmers. She came to my plot with a few security guards and began threatening us while carrying a firearm, "Kuldeep Pasalkar claimed.

Who is Puja Khedkar?

Puja Khedkar, an IAS officer from the 2022 batch from the Maharashtra cadre, has been accused of using forged documents to pass the civil services test and reportedly misrepresenting her physical impairments and OBC classifications. Due to the increasing controversy surrounding the 32-year-old trainee IAS officer, the Center has established a one-member panel to look into the allegations made against her.
