Farmer's protest: Haryana Police Hurl Tear Gas Shells on Protesters in Hisar

In the Hisar district's Khedi Chopta, the Haryana Police fired tear gas shells at protesting farmers on Friday, while reports from the region suggested that about a dozen of them, including farmer leader Suresh Koth, were being held.

For the past five days, the farmers had been supporting those demonstrating on the Punjab-Haryana border by sitting on a dharna near Khedi Chopta. According to sources, they intended to bolster the broader agitation by moving Friday towards the Punjabi border at Khanauri. But when the cops attempted to stop them, there was a fight.

Farmer’s Death During Protest

The demonstrators threw stones at the police as they used water cannons and tear gas rounds to scatter the crowd. A few farmers were hurt when stones were thrown at them.

Earlier in the day, the family of farmer Shubhkaran Singh, 22, who died in confrontations at the Punjab-Haryana border, declined the state government's offer of Rs 1 lakh ex gratia. Meanwhile, farm leaders declared that until the guilty are brought to justice, they will not permit a post-mortem on the youth's remains.

The farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' march, which was initiated to seek a minimum support price (MSP) guarantee law, has been temporarily suspended in the wake of a farmer's death in a run-in with the Haryana police on Wednesday. It is anticipated, nevertheless, that the farmers will discuss the further steps to take next to advance the campaign.
