In a terrible incident, a young girl, who was on a trip with a bunch of friends in Panji for a Christmas celebration, was raped by a transport driver from Zuarinagar on Sunday night.
The accused, 35-year-old Chandrashekar Vasu Lamani, of Zuarinagar, was arrested on Monday by the Women Police Station, Panji. This brought the incident to light. Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) has placed the accused in police custody for four days.
As per the report, a group of 12-14 students hired a minibus and went from Vasco to Panji for a Christmas celebration. During the trip few of the students consumed alcohol.
When they were near Panji most of the students got off to buy beverages and snacks, this is when the bus driver went to the last seat and took advantage of the 18-year-old’s intoxicated state. He physically assaulted her and raped her, few students who were present on the bus began calling for help, but by the time most of the party returned the driver had fled.
Police have been very private regarding the case.
