The Centre has sanctioned the construction of the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor for Rs 6,231 crore. The Red Line extension project, which would connect Delhi and Haryana, will include 21 stations along its 26.5-kilometer course. The Delhi segment would cost Rs 5,685.22 crore, while Haryana's half will cost Rs 545.77 crore.
VK Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, has played an important role in promoting this initiative. The national government would bear 40% of Delhi's expenses, with the DDA providing Rs 1,000 crore. Additional funds will come from lenders and the Delhi government. Haryana's contribution will be paid at 80% by the state and 20% by government funding.
The metro line, which is expected to be completed in four years, will boost connectivity in places such as Narela, Bawana, and Alipur. It will help to create the Narela-Bawana sub-city, which comprises educational facilities, business headquarters, and medical campuses.
The line is expected to have a daily passenger count of 1.26 lakh by 2028 and 3.8 lakh by 2055, improving interstate connections between Ghaziabad, Delhi, and Kundli.
