Cycle Meets Foot March: Akhilesh, Rahul, Priyanka in Agra

Within a week of the seat-sharing announcement with Congress in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in Agra on Sunday. Rahul Gandhi addressed the issues of unemployment and criticized the center as well as Adani during the foot march.

Sharing the stage with Rahul Gandhi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in Agra,  Yadav launched a scathing attack on the BJP governments at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the state government in Uttar Pradesh.  He accused the PM and CM of undermining the Constitution and democracy and failing to uphold the dreams of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Akhilesh's attendance in the foot march is coming at a time when the Congress party is trying to forge a united front against the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. According to the seat-sharing arrangement in Uttar Pradesh, the two socialist parties, the Congress will fight from

17 constituencies and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party will fight from 63 parliamentary seats. Congress will fight for Mathura and Fatehpur Sikri parliamentary seats and the SP will fight for constituencies like Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri in Agra Division and Aligarh, Hathras.

Gandhi and Yadav took part in a similar short roadshow in  2017. Sharing the stage with Rahul Gandhi after a long gap since 2017,  Yadav expressed his support for the yatra's message and vowed to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming elections.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi embarked on his second Bharat Jodo Yatra, a nationwide foot march, on January 14th in Manipur. The foot march will cover a distance of 6,713 km and about 100 Lok Sabha constituencies in 110 districts.  The Bharat Jodo Yatra will reach Madhya Pradesh from UP and conclude in Mumbai on March 20.
