Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar presented the interim state budget for Maharashtra for the year 2024-25 in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The budget has a provision of ₹6,52,200 crore for the total expenditure of the state. The budget estimates ₹4,98,758 crore as revenue receipts and ₹5,08,492 crore as revenue expenditure. The revenue deficit is estimated at ₹9,734 crore and the fiscal deficit at ₹99,288 crore. This budget seeks approval for a four-month grant.
New Airport and MSME PLans
During the presentation of the state budget 2024–25 on Tuesday, Maharashtra Finance Minister Ajit Pawar declared, "The first phase of the Navi Mumbai airport will be functional by March 2025." In addition, Ajit Pawar disclosed that the state is drafting a new MSME policy. "The government plans to connect around 1.47 crore homes to tap water under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Under the Housing for All Scheme, the government intends to provide 34,400 dwellings for Divyang people," he stated.
In front of the statue of Shivaji, Ajit Pawar placed a budget bag before presenting it in the assembly. The Maharashtra government has proposed supplementary demands of ₹8,609 crore on the first day of the state legislative assembly's budget session. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar presented the proposal for supplementary demands first in the assembly and then in the council. The amount demanded under supplementary demand is an additional sum sought by the government over the budget allocation.
