Massive Police Reshuffle: 500 policemen of Jalandhar Range Transferred

More than 500 police personnel, from the ranks of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) to constable, have been transferred across the Jalandhar Range.

106 policemen in Jalandhar Rural, 233 in Hoshiarpur, and 180 in Kapurthala districts have been transferred. The transferred personnel will not be posted in their hometowns.

Why this reshuffle?

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harmanbir Gill, complying with the orders announced this major reshuffle after a meeting, to cleanse the department of corrupt elements and strengthen the fight against drug smuggling.

This decision was aimed at breaking the long stay of cops at one place, suspecting there could be some black sheep in the department having vested interest in continuing in the current place of posting to benefit from their nexus with drug smugglers.

DIG Gill emphasised taking stringent action against major drug smugglers to dismantle the drug supply chain. He instructed police officials to identify big smugglers and to invoke Section 68F of the NDPS Act to seize illegally acquired assets of drug suppliers.

Additionally, he warned cops against indulging in corruption or colluding with criminals like drug smugglers, as no leniency will be shown, the press release stated. The DIG underscored the need for immediate departmental action and severe penalty for such misconduct within the police force, the release stated.

"The officers must deal with drug smugglers and criminals with an iron hand," DIG Gill stated.
