Dengue cases in Ludhiana have surpassed 300 this year, with a worrying surge of 44 cases in just the first six days of November. The district witnessed a significant increase in October and 176 cases was recorded. According to District Epidemiologist Dr. Sheetal Narang stated that cases spiked in August last year but this year’s cases began to rise in October.
Evolving Mosquitoes Adapt to Lower Temperatures
Another concern was raised by Dr. Narang is the adaptability of Aedes aegypti, species of mosquitoes responsible for the spread of the disease. Earlier these mosquitoes were not able to survive temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius. But recent adaptation has made them resistant to lower temperatures. This can lead to dengue infections persist even as temperatures drop, hence extending the season for outbreak of Dangue.

- Minimize Mosquito Bites
Wearing long-sleeved clothes and applying mosquito repellents can offer effective protection against bites. When sleeping using mosquito nets to adds tan extra layer of safety.
- Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Grounds
Standing water in containers, pots, or any open vessels is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. Regularly empty or clean these containers to reduce mosquito populations indoors and outdoors.
- Secure Doors and Windows
Keeping doors and windows closed can prevent mosquitoes from entering.
Dengue fever can cause symptoms like fever, rash, and headache. With an alarming rise in cases people are encouraged to follow these preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection.
