Say Hello to Sunday! Watched your favourite show for the 164789 time? Let’s move on to something fresh! I may have a recommendation. Anne Hathaway’s “The Idea of You” is streaming on Amazon Prime Video, the romantic movie, you can rely upon.
The Plot
‘Idea of You’ is a love-story of Solene ( Anne Hathaway), a 40 year old Mom of a teenage daughter, and Hayes (Nicholas Galitzine), a 24 year old heartthrob and a Boy-Band Member. It is based on Robinne Lee's bestselling novel of the same name.
They first met at Coachella. Solene has been heartbroken after her husband cheats on her with a younger woman, but they agree upon co-parenting their daughter. The daughter drags her mom to Coachella to attend ‘August Moon’s’ meet and greet and concert. Yes, it’s Hayes’ Group. The first meeting was awkward but so romantic. Both seem equally infatuated to each other. The settings like Coachella and Art gallery, highlight the stark contrast in their lifestyles and life stages. But they found comfort in each others.
Cut to the other scene, Hayes makes a visit at her place and things between them move forward, however, Solene hesitates a little, then Solene visits him at LA, then they get in a full blown ‘steamy’ relationship, defying all odds.
Chemistry is Chemistry-ing!
The chemistry between Anne Hathaway's Solène and Nicholas Galitzine's Hayes is portrayed with delicacy, sensuality, and style. Anne and Nicholas effortlessly convey both ease and passion in their interactions. Hathaway captures Solène's journey of rediscovering youth and taking a risk for happiness and being with Hayes, while Galitzine brings depth to Hayes beyond the heartthrob stereotype, adding layers to the narrative, he is quite loving and emotional more than she seems at first glance, with fangirls all around.
Throughout the film, their relationship has been on and off, with heartbreaks, insecurities, Judgmental comments, stereotypes and misogyny, but a lot of romance. Their love seems like a forbidden love all because of the ‘age-difference’, so patriarchy’s double standards are a predictable obstacle to their relationship.
“The Idea of You '' is a short and sweet love story of two completely different people, in age-difference and work, but they eventually get attracted to each other and find comfort in each other. It maintains that romantic core, despite all obstacles, which makes us giggle a little at one time, and feel emotional the next scene.
