NEET-NET 2024: The High-Level Committee to seek suggestions from parents and students, says Chairman K. Radhakrishnan

A meeting was held by the High-Level Committee of the Ministry of Education at the IIT Delhi campus, to investigate matters of the National Testing Agency (NTA) amid mounting protests against the cancellation of NEET UG 2024. The group was chaired by K Radhakrishnan, the former chairman of ISRO and chairman of BoG at IIT Kanpur.

The High-level Committee's Primary Objectives

  • The Education Ministry's Committee on Exam Reforms has decided to interact with parents and students to gain insight into their worries and difficulties with the testing process. According to the experts, the committee's primary objective is to gather suggestions from parents and students. During their first meeting on Monday, the seven-member Committee also decided to gather the suggestions they had received over the following two weeks.

"The first priority for us is to elicit from the students and parents in the country their concerns and suggestions. We are going to engage with them as far as possible in person, or through electronic media. And in the next fortnight, we would like to consolidate this," - Committee's Chairman K. Radhakrishnan.

  • Radhakrishnan went on to say that next on the Committee's priority list is to rapidly construct a reliable system for initiating the tests. They are also considering the future, particularly the development of a strong, impenetrable, error-free, and stress-free system that will reduce challenges and anxiety for students while allowing for adequate adaptability in the future of the country.

Officials stated that the committee was informed about NTA's current entrance test procedure, its technological proficiency, and recent instances of abnormalities seen in the NEET-UG and UGC-NET. The panel was established at a time when the NTA is being scrutinized for claimed irregularities in the way this year's National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Undergraduate Programs (NEET-UG) was conducted, the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) was cancelled because a paper leak appeared on the darknet, and the CSIR-UGC-NET was postponed.
