NCERT gets deemed University status

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been granted the status of a deemed university, according to the statement made by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on September 1.

“Today, I want to announce that we are granting the status of deemed to be university to NCERT," he said. The announcement was made by the Union Minister at the event in the nation's capital honoring NCERT's 63rd founding anniversary.

In addition, Pradhan demanded that Bal Bhavans and Bal Vatika be combined with the NCERT to "provide holistic education to children."

NCERT is an organization that was established in 1961 under the Society Act to help and advise the government on issues related to education.

Regarding details, the Central Government may designate an institution of higher education, other than universities, that operates at a very high standard in a given field of study as a "Deemed-to-be-university" on the advice of the UGC. 'Deemed-to-be-university' institutions have the academic standing and benefits of a university. NCERT will now grant graduation, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees thanks to its newly acquired status as a deemed university.

Pradhan additionally inaugurated three labs, one of which focuses on virtual reality education and the other on a center for teacher training.
