Trump releasing JFK files - How CIA "Allegedly" murdered its own president

Pretext:

Who was JFK, Why was a Crucial, and why CIA was accused of assasinating him:

John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was a charismatic leader whose brief tenure from 1961 to 1963 left an enduring impact on American politics and global affairs. Seen as a symbol of youthful optimism and progressive leadership, Kennedy championed civil rights, space exploration, and Cold War diplomacy at a time of intense geopolitical tension. His administration navigated the Cuban Missile Crisis, arguably preventing nuclear war, and set the ambitious goal of landing a man on the Moon. However, his presidency was cut short when he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, on 22 November 1963—a moment that shocked the world and gave rise to countless conspiracy theories.

While the official investigation, led by the Warren Commission, concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination, many remain sceptical. Among the most persistent theories is the suspicion that the CIA played a role in Kennedy’s death. This belief stems from tensions between Kennedy and the intelligence agency, particularly after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961, when the CIA’s botched attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro embarrassed the administration. Kennedy was reportedly furious and sought to reform the agency, even allegedly expressing a desire to “splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds.” Some theorists argue that powerful figures within the agency saw him as a threat to their covert operations, particularly in Cuba and Vietnam, and orchestrated his assassination to prevent further interference.

The release of classified JFK assassination files has only deepened speculation, with redacted documents and withheld records fuelling suspicion that the full story remains untold. Whether the upcoming disclosure of 80,000 pages of documents will finally settle the debate or add new layers to the mystery remains to be seen.

Trump says he will release 80,000 pages of JFK files on Tuesday

US President Donald Trump has announced that his administration will release around 80,000 pages of documents related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, a case that has fuelled conspiracy theories for over six decades. Speaking at the Kennedy Center on Monday, Trump stated that the files, which will be made public on Tuesday, contain “a lot of reading” on the assassination of the 35th US president, who was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas, on 22 November 1963. Trump emphasised that he had instructed officials not to censor any information. “I don’t believe we are going to redact anything. I said, ‘just don’t redact, you can’t redact’,” he told reporters. When asked whether he had personally reviewed the documents, he confirmed that he was aware of their contents, adding, “It’s going to be very interesting.”

This disclosure follows an executive order Trump signed in January, which called for the release of all remaining documents linked to JFK’s assassination, along with records concerning the assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Under this directive, Trump instructed Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to present a plan within 15 days for the “full and complete release” of the JFK files. Last month, the FBI reported that its searches had uncovered approximately 2,400 additional documents related to the assassination. The circumstances of JFK’s death have long fascinated the American public, with polls consistently showing widespread scepticism towards official explanations. A 2023 Gallup survey revealed that 65% of Americans rejected the findings of the Warren Commission, which concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, a former US Marine, acted alone in assassinating the president. Among those polled, 20% believed Oswald conspired with the US government, while 16% suspected CIA involvement.

During his first term, Trump had pledged to release all outstanding JFK assassination records but ultimately held back thousands of pages at the request of the CIA and FBI, citing national security concerns. His predecessor, Joe Biden, authorised the release of around 17,000 additional documents, reducing the number of files still withheld—either partially or fully—to fewer than 4,700.

According to the National Archives, more than 99% of the approximately 320,000 documents reviewed under the 1992 JFK Records Act have now been made public. The legislation required the release of all remaining records by 26 October 2017, unless the president determined that their disclosure would cause “identifiable harm” to national security, intelligence operations, law enforcement, or foreign relations that would outweigh the public’s right to access the information.
