Perplexity CEO does Twitter Hero-giri, tells Elon to "Stop me if you Can"

In a bold and unexpected move, Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas took to X (formerly Twitter) to challenge Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk amid ongoing discussions regarding the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Srinivas tweeted, "Considering raising $500B from USAID. Funding secured. Stop me if you can @elonmusk."

The tweet, which quickly went viral, is a direct reference to Musk’s infamous 2018 tweet where he claimed he had secured funding to take Tesla private. The SEC later fined Musk for misleading investors, making this a particularly pointed remark from Srinivas.

The Context Behind the Tweet

The exchange comes at a time when Musk, who now leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Donald Trump, has launched an aggressive campaign against USAID, calling it a "criminal organization" and pushing for its dissolution. Musk has been vocal about his concerns regarding government spending and foreign aid, which he believes should be drastically reduced.

By referencing USAID in his tweet, Srinivas not only poked fun at Musk but also inserted himself into a larger political debate. His tweet received mixed reactions, with some praising his wit and others questioning whether this was an unnecessary provocation.

Social Media Reactions

The post quickly amassed thousands of likes, retweets, and comments. While some users applauded Srinivas for his humor and fearlessness, others criticized him for making light of a serious issue.

One user commented, “Bold move! But is it wise to take shots at Musk?” while another wrote, “This is next-level trolling. Perplexity AI just gained a whole lot of attention.” Meanwhile, Musk himself has yet to respond, leaving many to speculate whether he will take the bait.

What This Means for Perplexity AI

Perplexity AI, a rising player in the AI-powered search engine space, has been making headlines for its innovative approach to information retrieval. While Srinivas’s tweet was clearly meant as a joke, it also served as a strategic PR move, drawing more attention to his company.

Industry analysts note that this could be a double-edged sword. While the added publicity may benefit Perplexity AI, direct conflicts with Musk have historically not ended well for many executives.

As of now, Musk has not directly responded to Srinivas’s tweet, but the internet is eagerly waiting to see if he does.
