WPL 2024: UP Warriors steal a win against DC in a nail-biting encounter

In a dramatic battle, UP Warriorz Women defeated Delhi Capitals by one run in Match 15 of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, registering a significant victory. UP made a respectable 138/8 in their allotted 20 overs after choosing to bat first, thanks in part to a half-century from Deepti Sharma (59 off 48). Delhi lost the match by one run after being bowled out for 137 in 19.5 overs.

The table toppers were cruising to victory with 15 runs needed off the last 12 deliveries and six wickets in hand. But Deepti Sharma, who claimed three wickets in the penultimate over, and Grace Harris, who claimed two more in the final over and successfully defended nine runs, left them dumbfounded. Consequently, UP secured a vital victory to maintain their position in the knockout stage. 

The Star Performers: Deepti Sharma & Meg Lanning

Deepti Sharma, an all-rounder, was the only player using the bat to score her second consecutive half-century. The southpaw led her team to a score of 138/8 with a masterful hit of 59 (48), supported by six fours and a six.

DC skipper hits 50

Meg Lanning, the skipper of the Delhi Capitals, scored 60 (46), her third half-century in a row, with the aid of twelve fours. It appeared simple to score runs until Lanning was at the crease, as Delhi reached 93 in 14 overs. Notably, Lanning previously scored 53 against Mumbai and 55 against Gujarat.
