Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), coached by Smriti Mandhana, suffered their third consecutive defeat on Wednesday when they were defeated by Gujarat Giants by 11 runs in the Women's Premier League (WPL) matchup.
RCB got off to a good start in their chase of 202, but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. RCB's hopes were kept alive by Sophie Devine, who scored 66 off 45 balls, and Heather Knight, who scored 30* off just 11 balls. However, Ashleigh Gardner's methodical play helped Gujarat maintain control. In her four innings, she struck out three times and gave up 31 runs.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Gujarat Giants posted a massive 201/7 score thanks to earlier, explosive scores from Harleen Deol and Sophia Dunkley. Dunkley shot the fastest 18-ball 50 in the Women's Premier League thus far. Harleen took over and smashed 67 off 47 balls after she was dismissed for 65 off 28 balls. In the meantime, the RCB camp's standout bowler was Shreyanka Patil, who took two wickets and gave up 32 runs in four overs. This was Gujarat's first tournament victory.
