Wimbledon Updates: Alcaraz, Sinner advance to quarterfinals, Raducanu and Gauff get eliminated

The men's and women's singles events reached the Round of 16 yesterday at the 2024 Wimbledon Tournament, which is almost a week away from its conclusion. Even though there are still a few days until the winners of each division are announced, this is truly starting to get down to the very best. The tournaments started with 128 athletes on each side, and that number has decreased to just 16.

Saturday's Wimbledon updates

Seven-time winner and second seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the Wimbledon round of 16 on Saturday by defeating Alexei Popyrin of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3). In the women's singles, Yulia Putintseva defeated top-seeded Iga Swiatek 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, while Elina Svitolina defeated two-time runner-up Ons Jabeur 6-1, 7-6(4). In the opening round of mixed doubles on Court No. 1, Andy Murray and fellow Brit Emma Raducanu were scheduled to play Zhang Shuai of China and Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador. This was Murray's final effort at the grass Major. But Raducanu's right wrist tightness forced her to leave the match. Rajeev Ram and Katie Volynets, an American team, took the place of the British team.
