Wimbledon Day 5: On Friday, the fifth day of Wimbledon 2024, at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), in London, Sinner, Raducanu, Alcaraz, and Gauff advance to the round of 16.
Alcaraz displays genuine grit
The defending champion and third seed Carlos Alcaraz defeated the 29th-seeded American Frances Tiafoe 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2 in the men's singles third round. In the round of 16, Spain's Alcaraz will face either American Brandon Nakashima or Frenchman Ugo Humbert.
Emma Raducanu continues her incredible Wimbledon run
The British player defeated Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-3, advancing to the fourth round with a brilliant performance that included multiple break points saved and breaks of the latter's serve.
- Second seed and reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff defeated local qualifier Sonay Kartal 6-4, 6-0.
- Afterwards, Italy's Jannik Sinner, ranked number one in the world, defeated Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets.
