Reports circulating online indicate that Rohit Sharma, the captain of India's ODI and Test teams, will no longer be seen in T20 Internationals. He had apparently discussed his future in the shortest format prior to the commencement of the 50-over World Cup. Ever since India's T20 World Cup semi-final departure in November 2022, Rohit hasn't played a single game in the shortest format. Instead, Hardik Pandya has stepped up and assumed the role of leading the Indian team in T20Is for the majority of the time.
The Indian captain, who is 36 years old, has participated in 148 T20Is and managed to score 3853 runs at an impressive strike rate of almost 140. He has also achieved the remarkable feat of scoring four centuries.
''It is not a new development. Rohit hasn't played any T20Is in the past year as the focus was on the ODI World Cup. He had extensive discussions with the chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar in this regard. He has himself volunteered to stay away from T20Is. It has completely been Rohit's call,'' a senior BCCI source told PTI.
According to Hindustan Times, former India opener Gautam Gambhir stated that he would like to see both Rohit and Virat Kohli play the T20 World Cup slated to take place in the West Indies and the USA in June next year
Rohit's exceptional leadership skills propelled India to the final of the ODI World Cup, winning 10 consecutive matches. Despite losing to Australia in the final, Rohit's selflessness and dedication to the team were evident throughout the tournament, making it one of India's most impressive performances in a World Cup.
