RCB, who has never won the IPL, takes on the defending champion Chennai Super Kings on Friday in Chennai to start their season. Since the competition takes place before the T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean, Kohli's performance in the lucrative T20 league will be watched carefully.

Due to family obligations, Kohli was also unable to play in the five-match home Test series against England. The legendary batsman amassed 639 runs in the previous IPL season, including two hundred and six half-centuries.
