Former India captain Virat Kohli was rested for the final Super Fours match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023. However, he kept himself busy by carrying water for his teammates on the field. This is not the first time Kohli has done this duty when he is not part of the playing XI. India tested their bench strength in the match, as they had already qualified for the final.
They defeated Pakistan and Sri Lanka in their previous Super Four matches. Sri Lanka also secured a spot in the final by defeating Pakistan in a virtual semi-final. India rested Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj for the game against Bangladesh.
Tilak Varma made his ODI debut in this match, along with Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Shami. Shreyas Iyer missed the match due to a back spasm. India will be looking to give game time to their bench players ahead of the ODI series against Australia and the ODI World Cup.Captain Rohit Sharma emphasised the importance of giving Suryakumar Yadav game time despite his poor numbers in ODIs.
