Novak Djokovic wins his semifinal match against American Ben Shelton, 6-3, 6-2, 7-6. Djokovic advances to his 10th US Open final where he will play against Daniil Medvedev. Daniil Medvedev defeated world no. 1, Carlos Alcaraz with, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Shelton's game plan was to overpower and unsettle Djokovic, and he put up a stiff competition in the final set. Shelton sent powerful ground stokes and his serves set Djokovic off his rhythm, but he was able to settle in well enough.
Novak Djokovic said after the win, "These are the types of matches I thrive on. The ones that inspire me to keep working as hard as he young guys." He is 36 years old and is the oldest man to appear in the US Open semifinals since 39 years old Jimmy Connors.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Daniil Medvedev made correct calculations to neutralize the energetic Alcaraz. Before the match he said he would need an "11 out of 10" performance to end the US Open reign of Carlos Alcaraz. And during his on-court interview he said, "I said I needed to play 11 out of 10. I played 12 out of 10 , except the third set." He also said that it was the only way to beat Alcaraz who was so young and won 2 Grand Slams already.
For Medvedev to win in the finals, he knows that he needs to put another otherworldly show to stop Djokovic from claiming his 24th major singles title.
