Two Indian racewalkers qualify for 2024 Olympics

Vikash Singh & Paramjeet Singh Bisht from India created history on Sunday by qualifying for the Paris Olympics 2024 and World Championships 2023 during the Asian Championships. Vikash and Paramjeet set a wonderful example for upcoming athletes as they finished second and third in the men's open category at the Asian 20 km Race Walking Championships with times of 1:20:05 sec and 1:20:08 sec respectively. Qian Haifeng of China came in first with a time of 1:19:09.

Indian athletes have recently made the qualifying mark for both the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary with a time of 1:20:10 or better. This was done by a very close margin.

Last month, Akshdeep Singh earned his spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics and 2023 World Athletics Championships by winning the National Championships. Additionally, he came first in the official entry category with a time of 1:20:57 and placed fifth overall. In addition to the official entries, nations may submit additional athletes in the open categories for the purpose of gaining experience, however, their results will not affect official standings.

This is according to the competition rules. India sent seven of their best race walkers to the continental event, comprising four men and three women. Moreover, two additional racers were appointed specially for the open category - one man and one woman. India now has four outstanding race walkers who are representing our country on an international stage.
